They are distributed across all continents except Antarctica and come in a wide range of sizes, shapes and colors. Praying mantises are also called mantids or mantises. Praying mantises have an elongated body with a large head, two large eyes and three ocelli. The forelegs are converted into fang legs that are equipped with thorns and hooks. Praying mantises use these legs to catch their prey, which consists of other insects such as: B. Flies, grasshoppers and spiders. Praying mantises are stalkers. They sit motionless on branches or leaves and wait for prey. When a suitable victim comes into sight, the catching legs quickly extend and grab the victim. The praying mantids then bites its victim to death and devours it. After mating, the female lays eggs in an egg capsule, which she places in a protected location.
